About ISK
"There's a big difference between taking Karate and becoming a martial artist." - Grandmaster Bob Gomez
WHAT IS KAJUKENBO?
Kajukenbo was created in 1947 in Honolulu, in the United States territory of Hawaii, by five masters: Sijo P.Y.Y. Choo, Sijo Frank Ordonez, Sijo Joe Holck, Sijo Clarence Chang, and Sijo Adriano Emperado. The word "Kajukenbo" breaks down as follows: KA: Korean Karate, JU: Judo/Ju-Jitsu, KEN: Kenpo, BO: Chinese Boxing (Gung Fu). Altogether the meaning is: through this fist style, one gains long life and happiness. Kajukenbo is still widely accepted as America's original mixed martial art. It is documented that several of our forefathers encouraged Sijo Bruce Lee to continue mixing styles back in the 1960's. We teach Gaylord Method.
